Building upon Active Design’s years of experience within posture & seating we can now offer custom-contoured foam carve seating. We can provide full assessment to provision service or work with local services to develop affordable 3D scanning capabilities and produce seat and backrest systems to meet your needs. We can also combine our contoured cushions with our modular seating systems to provide hybrid seating solutions. The custom contoured seating provides postural security for people with complex postural deformities that can not be accommodated within modular or orthogonal seating. Foam carve seating systems are intimately fitted seating systems providing pressure relief and support. Various foam types can be used to provide the optimum amount of support or pressure relief required.

Custom contoured seating requires an assessment with a skilled seating engineer:

• A seating engineer will work with local therapy staff to ascertain the most suitable prescription, while completing a full plinth assessment to record range of movements.
• The user’s body shape impression is taken using a vacuum bag (bean bag), this is then 3D scanned for manufacture, as this is 3D scanned multiple copies of the same seat can be made.
• Using the scan data the shape is then carved out of a block of foam, hand finished, fitted into a shell, then custom covers made.  
• Finally the Custom MAPs Seat is expertly interfaced onto the desired wheelbase.
